1 - How does the XFINITY Terabyte Internet Data Usage Plan work?

The Terabyte Internet Data Usage Plan is a new data usage plan for XFINITY Internet service that provides you with a terabyte (1 TB or 1024 GB) of Internet data usage each month as part of your monthly service.  If you choose to use more than 1 TB in a month, we will automatically add blocks of 50 GB to your account for an additional fee of $10 each.  Your charges, however, will not exceed $200 each month, no matter how much you use.  And, we're offering you two courtesy months, so you will not be billed the first two times you exceed a terabyte.  This data plan is based on a principle of fairness.  Those who use more Internet data, pay more.  And those who use less Internet data, pay less.

It is important to know that more than 99 percent of our customers do not use a terabyte of data and are not likely to be impacted by this plan, so they can continue to stream, surf, and download without worry.  To see your actual usage, sign in to My Account.

For customers who use a terabyte or more in a month, we also offer an Unlimited Data Option. The Unlimited Data Option costs an additional fee of $50 per calendar month. The fee is independent of actual data usage. The Terabyte Internet Data Usage Plan will not apply to customers who enroll in the Unlimited Data Option.

2 - What can I do with a terabyte of data in a month?

4 - Where do I check my data usage?

You can view current usage and usage history by signing in to your Usage Meter page. You will need your XFINITY username and password to login.

You can also view your current usage and usage history in the XFINITY My Account app for mobile devices. See How Can I Get the XFINITY My Account App to download the app.

5 - Can I get Unlimited Data?

Yes. First you should check your individual usage here – 99 percent of our customers don’t use more than a terabyte a month, but for the less than 1 percent of our customers who use a terabyte in a month, we want to make sure you understand your options and choose the data usage plan that works best for you. Our data plans are based on a principle of fairness. Those who use more Internet data, pay more. And those who use less Internet data, pay less. For those customers who use more than a terabyte a month, we offer an Unlimited Data Option.

The Unlimited Data Option costs an additional fee of $50 per calendar month. The fee is independent of actual data usage. The Terabyte Internet Data Usage Plan will not apply to customers who enroll in the Unlimited Data Option.

Beginning on July 17, 2017, enrollment goes into effect immediately when you choose the unlimited data option and applies to the calendar month in which you make the change. Any fees for additional usage that month will be cleared out and your next bill will reflect the $50 for that month and for the upcoming month. If you choose to cancel the unlimited data option, it will remain in effect for the remainder of the month in which you make the change and you’ll return to the Terabyte Internet Data Usage Plan beginning on the first day of the subsequent calendar month.

As a reminder, data usage plans do not apply to Comcast Business Internet customers, customers on Bulk Internet agreements, and customers with Prepaid Internet, or to XFINITY Internet customers on our Gigabit Pro tier of service.

6 - How will I know if I go over a terabyte in a month?

We will send you an "in-browser" notice and an email letting you know when you approach, reach, and exceed a terabyte. You can also elect to receive notifications at additional thresholds as well as set up mobile text notifications. Usage notifications will not be sent to customers who enroll in the Unlimited Data Option.

Below is an example of an in-browser notification. To resume browsing, click the CLICK TO CLOSE button.

You can elect to receive email, browser, and text notifications at 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90%, 100%, 110%, and 125% of a terabyte (the notification on reaching 100% of your monthly data plan will always be sent.).

You can set your personal notification thresholds on your Usage Meter webpage in My Account.

7 - What will happen if I use more than a terabyte in a month?

No matter how much data you use, your Internet service will never be interrupted.

Courtesy Months

We’ll provide you with two courtesy months, so you will not be billed the first two times you exceed a terabyte while you are getting used to the new data usage plan. This means that you will only be subject to overage charges if you use more than a terabyte for a third time in a 12-month period. If you use more than a terabyte two times or less in a 12-month period, your courtesy month balance will reset to two at the end of these 12 months. However, if you use more than a terabyte three times in a 12-month period, no more courtesy months will be given.

Overage Charges

Once both courtesy months have been used, the next time you exceed a terabyte in a month (and any subsequent times a terabyte is exceeded in a month), an additional block of 50 GB will automatically be allocated to your account, and a $10 charge will be applied to your bill. You will automatically be charged $10 each time we provide you with an additional block of 50 GB of data, with a limit of $200 per month.

Billing Cycle

The charge for exceeding your data usage plan will appear on the bill statement following the last day of the month for which you exceeded your data usage plan (or on the subsequent bill statement, depending on your bill cycle date).

This information does not apply to customers enrolled in the Flexible Data Option or the Unlimited Data Option.

8 - What is the Flexible Data Option?

Our data plans are based on a principle of fairness. Those who use more Internet data, pay more. And those who use less Internet data, pay less. The Flexible Data Option is available to our Economy Plus and Performance Starter customers and is specifically designed for casual or light Internet users who typically use 5 GB of data or less each month. Enrollment is optional and provides an automatic $5 credit if your total monthly data usage is less than or equal to 5 GB per month.

However, if you use 6 GB of data or more in any given month, you will not receive the $5 credit and will be charged $1 for each GB of data used over the 5 GB included in the Flexible Data Option (up to $200 per month). These charges would be in addition to the price of your monthly XFINITY Internet service charge.

Please call us at 1-877-807-6581. A service representative will help you with your questions between 6:00am - 2:00am ET, seven days a week.

9 - If I upgrade my speed, will I get more data?

No. All customers in locations with an Internet Data Usage Plan receive a terabyte per month, regardless of their Internet tier of service. If you have purchased more than one XFINITY Internet service tier, you will receive a monthly plan that includes 1 terabyte per Internet service tier (e.g., if you subscribe to two separate Internet services, you will have 2 terabytes of data total).

The data usage plan does not currently apply to XFINITY Internet customers on our Gigabit Pro tier of service. The plan also does not apply to Business Internet customers, customers on Bulk Internet agreements, and customers with Prepaid Internet.
